Position Overview:
In direct collaboration with the Costume Department Manager/Resident Costume Designer, the position is focused on design and implementation of design.  Apprentice is expected to assist with the build, sourcing, and execution of the costuming for PTC Mainstage Productions. Apprentice will also take a lead role in the Dramatic Academy, Penobscot Theatre Company’s youth education program, as the Costume Designer for fully realized youth productions. These productions are staged in collaboration with mainstage programming.  Apprentice may serve as a design assistant on a PTC Mainstage production.  Additional responsibilities and specific work schedule to be established between the Production Manager and Costume Department Manager upon assessment of candidate’s individual skills and interests. Opportunity to extend contract through the Summer Season may be available.

 

Responsibilities

  • Daily Employment in Costume Shop
    • Stitching, patterning, pulling, sorting, shopping, and restocking among other duties
  • Assist the Costume Department Manager with daily shop tasks, including receipt tracking and maintaining run paperwork.
  • Assist the Designer in tech
    • Note taking, problem solving, material gathering, and being a representative for the department
  • Run up to two productions as wardrobe supervisor.
  • Working in association with the Wardrobe Supervisor on other to maintain show laundry.
    • This position is the backup for our Wardrobe Crew should a show ever need a substitute for the Wardrobe Supervisor.
  • Manage inventory culling stock as needed/ helping restock
  • Costume Designer for Dramatic Academy Productions

Qualifications and Skills 

    • Prior experience in a professional costume shop environment.
    • Fluency in the terminology of the trade
    • Skill, precision, and craftsmanship in garment construction/alteration with both hand and machine
    • Attention to detail
    • Ability to multitask without compromising safety and quality
    • Strong problem-solving skills
    • Adept skills of organization and follow-through
    • Strong work ethic and a sense of urgency
  • Ability to communicate clearly when giving directions or interacting with staff, visiting artists, volunteers, students, and other apprentices
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently
  • Ability to lift at least 30lbs
  • Climbing Stairs is required for this position.
  • A valid driver’s license, as well as a car is a requirement for the position (due to the physical distance between the costume shop and the theater, as well as errands that are frequently part of the daily responsibilities)

The Costume Shop Apprentice reports to the Costume Department Manager, the Production Manager and Artistic Director.

Compensation and Benefits
This position starts mid August of 2025 and runs through Mid July of 2026. This position is a full-time, salaried position defined at $586/week and 40 work hours per week. The position is eligible for overtime if weekly work is beyond 40 hours. The position will alert their supervisor when hours worked are likely to go beyond 40 hours. This position is eligible for company housing, including a private bedroom with shared living spaces and bathroom. This position is eligible for employee benefit plans including health, with options for vision and dental add-on plans. Director of Development

Job Relationships: Reports to Executive Director, works closely with the Artistic Director and Marketing Director

General Purpose: Donor stewardship, fundraising strategy and planning

Schedule: This position is a member of the Penobscot Theatre Company (PTC) administrative team, schedule is ordinarily Mon-Fri. Weekends, and evenings required as needs dictate.

Position Summary: Penobscot Theater Company seeks an experienced, strategic, enthusiastic, and outgoing development professional to lead the organization’s fundraising efforts, expand and deepen our community connections and instill a culture of philanthropy among staff, volunteers, and board members. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for the arts, exceptional communication skills, and a proven track record in fundraising and development. The Director of Development will report to the Executive Director and work closely with the Artistic Director,  and Marketing Director.

Duties

  • Collaborates with the Executive Director (ED), Artistic Director (AD), and Marketing Director (MD) to develop a Comprehensive Development plan and Vision
  • Leads fundraising strategies and initiatives for PTC and Dramatic Academy (DA – Educational Program) 
  • Plans and executes fundraising events, campaigns, and initiatives
  • Tracks, documents and mails all donor and grant acknowledgements
  • Assist in data collection – review and analyze ROI to inform strategy
  • Support events management and coordination
  • Partners with Executive Director to identify and apply for new foundation and government grants.
  • Represents PTC at events as appropriate
  • Works with ED to develop and execute Community Outreach events
  • Engages and supports the Board in their fundraising efforts
  • Oversee the development and implementation of a planned giving program
  • Assists in nonprofit management tasks as needed

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years experience working in nonprofit fundraising and development or relevant sales/community experience
  • Ability to think outside the box and creatively assess fundraising avenues
  • Ability to manage competing responsibilities and proven skills in project management
  • Demonstrated ability to build personal relationships with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Comfort leading solicitations in-person and virtually
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and diplomacy 
  • Experience with database management
  • Passion for the Performing Arts
  • Microsoft Office & Google Suite (Required)
  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
